A community is where there are shared interests among individuals that have common interests. The value of being in a community is that people are willing to help when you need it.

These communities exist because of strong relationships that are sustained over time because of trust and credibility.  The digital world has created more options for outreach and sharing. The session focuses on defining your community-building strategy just as you would in an executive role so can be successful in the digital world.

Valerie Nielsen is a Risk Executive with expertise across risk management, accounting, finance, internal audit, process improvement, governance, third- party vendors, and compliance. 

She is the co-founder of a boutique consulting firm that focuses on the intersection of strategy and risk across multiple industries. Valerie has embraced digital tools to create a community of trust and credibility.  She has been recognized by LinkedIn this year as a Top Voice and influencer.

She works with start-up/incubator companies at the University of Chicago’s Polsky Center.  She mentors entrepreneurs at Chicago Innovation. Valerie holds the following professional designations CPA, CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), CTA (Certified Trust Auditor), and a GE Six Sigma Greenbelt.
