Topic: CPA Firms and Cybersecurity Service Offerings – A Marriage made in Heaven?

Speaker: Madhu Maganti, Director, Doeren Mayhew

The meeting will begin and end with networking, business card exchanges, 90 second elevator speech practice opportunities as well as Resume review drop-offs. The middle of the meeting will be our guest speaker.

During this session, Madhu will offer real life experiences while addressing:
- A brief overview of why CPA Firms are getting into Cybersecurity
- How CPA skillsets helped him succeed in Cybersecurity
- Discuss the recent Cybersecurity Breaches and lessons learnt

Speaker's bio:
Madhu Maganti leads the Cybersecurity Practice in Doeren Mayhew. With more than 16 years of experience, Madhu has worked closely with clients across a variety of industries, including governmental, financial institutions, health care and more, to ensure compliance, identify security risks, mitigate threats and protect data through cybersecurity assessments. Madhu’s expertise in cybersecurity consulting is unique and cutting edge based on his background of auditing both the Finance and IT domains, thus having the ability to explain cybersecurity risk in simple yet understandable terms to management for immediate remediation.

Madhu and his wife are actively involved in rescuing, fostering, and transporting shelter dogs and when he is not walking his dog at one of the many parks Houston has to offer, he enjoys playing cricket, attending concerts, and watching movies.

About the Houston (Katy/Sugar Land), TX Chapter

The Katy/Sugar Land Chapter covers the west side of the Houston metropolitan area.

Our meetings are a combination of networking meetings and scheduled speakers. Please check the calendar often!

We will be taking a summer hiatus for the months of June, July and August.

Steve serves as the Tax Director at the Houston office of Baker Tilly (formerly MRZ LLP). He has over 35 years of diversified public accounting experience advising high net worth individuals and closely held and family businesses as well as trusts, estates, partnerships, corporations, not-for-profits, state and local and expatriate taxation issues.

In addition, Steve has extensive experience acting as a client advocate in regards to tax notices, audits and protests, including payment plans, and offers in compromise.

Steve received his master's in taxation from Bentley University and did his undergraduate studies at Northeastern University both in Boston. He holds Certificates in Advanced Taxation Issues and Personal Financial Planning from Bentley. Steve holds CPA licenses in the states of Texas, New York and Massachusetts and is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Steve also acts as Chairman of the Katy / Sugar Land chapter of FENG (The Financial Executive Networking Group) and is also an Adjunct Professor teaching Master's level Tax and Financial Planning Topics.

Steve is married and lives in the Houston, TX area with his wife and three daughters. He is active in church groups and is a strong advocate of cancer cure causes. Steve serves on the Board of Directors / Accounting & Tax adviser for the military non-profit organization, S.T.A.N.O. Foundation as well as being part of Westwood Trust's 2018 Advisory Board.

Cindy W. Weaver, CPA has spent 29 years as a financial leader with broad experience in service, healthcare and small to mid-sized privately-owned companies. She has seasoned insight into team dynamics and identifying opportunities. Her new consulting company will allow her to better serve small businesses and the individuals and families that count on those businesses.

Areas of expertise include: growth strategies and managing accounting teams, business valuations and internal audit support, special reporting, software upgrades and other accounting projects. She is comfortable on all QuickBooks platforms, desktop and cloud and can successfully navigate a PC or Mac infrastructure.

After graduating from Houston Baptist University in 1990 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting and English, she spent the next ten years gaining experience in various leadership roles that encouraged her to take that next step into public accounting. She attained her CPA Certification in September of 2002 and has worked with many of Houston’s leading accounting firms to support the various entrepreneurs she has been blessed to work with. In fact, nine of twelve of her previous employers were small family owned businesses led by very driven founders with proven successes over many years.

Cindy also has deep roots in the volunteer community in Houston with 27 years serving Wings Over Houston and 26 years on various committees of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Her son is married and lives in Memphis with their two grandchildren, her daughter is a JV Cheerleader at Katy High School. Cindy has two grown “step” children that have blessed her with three more grandchildren. She enjoys traveling, cooking, and swimming.

Andy Frew has significant experience providing comprehensive capabilities required for solving complex acquisition and valuation issues for closely-held and small public corporations. As President, Andy led the 3rd largest U.S. chapter (approximately 150 members) of a world-renowned and respected multi-discipline international organization. He is co-author of a published article concerning reviews of public company filings by the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance for compliance with applicable business combination and valuation disclosure and accounting requirements. Andy is currently the Director of Valuation Services for a Houston, Texas based CPA firm.
