My name is Ira Benzion and I am currently working part-time as a consultant for a small (fewer than 15 employees) biotechnology company located in Rockville, MD.  The company does work for the federal government, so it needs an ERP system that can handle its accounting needs (G/L, payables, receivables, inventory, etc.) in addition to tracking costs by project and task.  Purchasing and receiving capabilities are also needed.

I would appreciate receiving recommendations from FENG members for ERP systems that are appropriately sized and priced for a small company (i.e., not Deltek Costpoint).

Thanks,

Ira Benzion

Hi Ira,

Have you looked at Sage Intacct? Give me a call if you would like to discuss the particulars or how we are using Sage Intacct for our clients. Happy to chat.

Hi Ira,

Are you aware Deltek offers a suite of products?  CostPoint is the offering for large firms. Deltek Vision may be more appropriate for your client.

Unanet would be a good option.

I am currently researching project based ERP systems.  From the little bit you shared, Unanet would like be a good choice, they are a company I am vetting as well.

Look at deltek vision or Netsuites. if these are two expensive for your needs. go to softwareadvice.com and they will recommend ERP for the size of your company and needs as you listed out

I would recommend Netsuite.  We are currently using it at a $40 million software and services company and it works really well.  My past experience with ERP systems is mainly with Oracle.  I'm happy to discuss it over the phone if that would be helpful.

-I've used Deltek Vision for project-based Acctg for govcon and liked it for that, but it doesn't have many govcon capabilities without modifications.  I know that they were changing Vision to another name (Vantagepoint?) and capabilities, but I didn't like what I initially saw of it before it was fully available.

-I have also used/implemented MS Dynamics 365 which has a govcon version created by a company in NoVA that's now owned by Xtivia.  The SaaS version had a lot of bugs and issues as late as about a year ago. It integrates well with MS Power BI for additional reporting capabilities.

-Currently, I'm working with a company that uses JAMIS SaaS.  It's not perfect and one reason my prior company didn't choose it was because they didn't have a mobile expense reporting app at that time and it wasn't fully ready to go with MS Power BI.  However, their latest upgrade now has the mobile expense reports and some other enhancements that we're going to test and implement soon.

-Everything I read about Unanet when I was looking at softwares about 2 years ago was that it was a good software, but was lacking on the mgmt reporting capabilities.  This may have improved since then so you should do your research and weigh the importance of having capabilities such as what MS Power BI can provide.

I had a spreadsheet I was using at my last company to compare softwares, but I don't think I have a copy.  If I find that I do have it, then I'll send it to you.  Let me know if you want to discuss any of the softwares I've mentioned.

Thanks,

    Steve

Hello,

Might look at Microsoft D365BC with Progressus project costing module.  Do you require cost plus indirect cost allocations?

I can connect you with a person for more info if you would like.

Best of luck.
