As all of you know, The FENG is going “all in” on Zoom. To prove my commitment to all of you and to our mission of educating members about the job search process, I will be hosting a daily 30 minute Zoom meeting. Details about tomorrow’s meeting appear below. I hope you will join us.
The daily times for “Chat with Matt” may change each week and during the week. Tomorrow’s meeting is scheduled for 4PM. That’s a little late for our members in London, but should work reasonably well for everyone else. I will nail down a guest or guest for Tuesday tomorrow. I have a few calls/emails out. (Sorry, but I only came up with this idea Friday afternoon.)
I’m open to any and all suggestions you may have about guests and topics we should discuss. I’ve settled on a 30 minute time frame to not totally eat up anyone’s morning or afternoon (including mine).
There are several things I would like to accomplish. The first “bad habit” that everyone seems to have these days is registering for meetings at the last minute. I did a presentation on Friday at 11AM on using our Member Directory Search feature and sadly, several people registered after 10:30AM. I hate to have anyone miss out, but to ensure the security of our Zoom meetings, we are only sending the sign in code to registered participants. You snooze, you lose.
Everyone needs to become proficient in Zoom. Over the past several years, more and more clients I have had for The FECG (my search practice-www.TheFECG.com), have been doing telephone screens before having candidates come in for an in person interview, even when all of the candidates were local. Let me make an easy prediction. They are now all going to be Zoom meetings.
What to wear? In the 1980’s business casual became very popular on Friday’s, especially during the summer. This was a time when I only wore 3 piece suits. In the mid-1990’s when I worked for The Thomson Corporation, business casual became acceptable during the rest of the week. Sadly, I primarily only owned dress clothes and ragged old jeans. I had almost nothing to wear that qualified as business casual. Certainly not enough for 5 days a week. Now the puzzle is what is acceptable on a Zoom call when everyone is working from home? Honestly, I don’t know, but certain clothing is unacceptable and/or not smart.
What is the future world going to look like? Is the present world going to stay the same? For how long? Will things get worse? Trust me, no one actually knows. (One tip is don’t buy Clorox Chewables.)
That said, from a job search perspective, the leadership of The FENG is here to help you figure it out. We’re all in. And, we will be harnessing the horse power of all of the experts we know.
