I’m sure I don’t need to go into the details, but it goes without saying that the past 9 months of unending stress have been hard on all of us.
I don’t know what happened to it, but when I worked for “the great corporation,” I had a bulletin board in my office with one section covered in cartoons. (People liked to kill time in my office.) In one of them a man is sitting on the edge of his bed trying to get up for the day. He clearly didn’t sleep well, hasn’t shaved, and he has the appearance of someone who is ready to give up. The caption has his wife saying: “Yeah, well you didn’t know how you were going to get through yesterday either, but yet, here you are.”
Friends, it’s time to get back to work, and the work I would suggest you get back to is: Networking, networking and more networking.

Back in the dark ages before everyone had a Zoom account and knew how to use it, my strong recommendation to you was to use our rather remarkable Member Directory Search feature to expand your Inner Circle of Friends.
While I still recommend you use this approach to find everyone with whom you ever have ever worked (at least the financial types), others who have worked at your primary firms, and others who have worked with competitors of your firms, I would like to encourage you to try setting up a Tip Talk designed to draw out from our 37,000 fellow members, anywhere from 6 to 12 individuals who are just like you to discuss a narrow topic.
Think of researching our membership directory as looking for a needle in a hay stack, and setting up a Tip Talk as more like “running it up the flag pole to see who salutes.”
As an example, I will be hosting a Tip Talk this week for those who have been CFOs of Advertising Agencies. As you may know, for most of the 1980’s I was CFO of a top 50 Advertising Agency in New York City. I can assure you, we will have a lot of common experiences to share about all the crazy people we had to work with and for.
Because the audience is large and the targeted response is small, you need to come up with a narrow subject. My thought is to only have a small number of folks Zooming so everyone has a chance to speak, gets to know each other and hopefully “create the beginning of a beautiful friendship,” for as many people as possible.
Sharing of your knowledge and experience is a core value of being a Fanatic FENG’er.
