Topic: Reversing the Ratchet Effect

Speaker: Margaret B. Shackell, Ph.D., CPA, Assistant Professor, School of Business, Ithaca College

Presentation:
We are privileged to welcome one of the authors of the article Reversing the Ratchet Effect, the article that was featured in the March 2021 issue of the Strategic Finance magazine.

Dr. Shackell has effectively translated the recent academic research finding that trust between a manager and subordinate can reduce the negative effects of the ratchet effect. For the COO or Second-In-Command Executive, this article has presented how we might design our organizational culture, incentives, and communication to produce the most favorable outcomes in the operational productivity of our businesses.

Speaker's bio:
Dr. Shackell is an Assistant Professor in Accounting and Business Law at Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY).  She received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and her MAcc from the University of Waterloo (Ontario).  Her research interests are in performance measurement, incentives, decision making, subjectivity, and ratcheting.  You may learn more about Dr. Shackell at her LinkedIn Profile.
