Anna Mikulska | Fellow in Energy | Baker Institute for Public Policy

Anna Mikulska, Ph.D., is a Fellow in Energy Studies at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy. In her capacity as a fellow, she co-leads the CES' Program on Energy and Geopolitics in Eurasia. Her research focuses on markets and geopolitics of energy within the EU, former Soviet Bloc and Russia. Her current interests include:1) the use of natural gas as a geoeconomic tool; 2) investigating ways to leverage U.S. LNG exports to bolster European energy security; and 3) energy security and energy transition in the context of Russian invasion on Ukraine. 
 

Mikulska is also a fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute and teaches graduate-level seminars on energy policy and geopolitics of energy at the University of Pennsylvania. She sits on the editorial board of the Adam Mickiewicz University Law Review, in Poznan, Poland and on the scientific board of the Ignacy Lukasiewcz Institute for Energy Policy, in Rzeszow, Poland.

 

 Mikulska's work appeared in the Journal of World Affairs, Orbis, the European Journal of Political Research, Party Politics and the Journal of Elections, Public Opinion and Parties. She has also written for the Hill, Forbes, Axios, the Conversation, and the Wall Street Journal. Mikulska speaks Polish, English, German, Farsi and Russian. She received a law degree from Adam Mickiewicz University, a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Windsor in Canada, and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Houston.

 

Justin Hoffman | Corporate Partner | Winston 

Mr Hoffman regularly represents public and private companies, underwriters, and investors in the energy, technology, financial services, and consumer products sectors on public and private capital markets and M&A transactions, special situations, and restructuring matters. He has extensive experience advising energy companies in connection with securities offerings and acquisition financings, particularly in the upstream, midstream, and oilfield services sectors, as well as coal mining and renewables. Justin also has significant experience in high yield debt securities, having led billions of dollars of bond transactions for both issuers and underwriters.

 

Elizabeth DeStephens | Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer | Black Knight Energy
 
Ms DeStephens is an energy executive and prolific early stage venture investor. She is currently Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer of Black Knight Energy, a Kayne Anderson backed upstream portfolio company with an equity commitment in excess of $500 million. Prior to Black Knight, she served in technical and financial roles with CRC, OXY, Ryder Scott Company, Raymond James, ExxonMobil and GE Nuclear Energy. She has broad expertise with transactions, financing, strategy, valuations, corporate due diligence, SEC reporting, and organizational transformation. She has played a lead role in more than $3B of A&D deals transacted.
 
Ms DeStephens has an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, M.Eng from University of Houston, and a BS in Materials Science from the University of Florida. She is a registered Professional Engineer and a Certified Director (NACD) with more than ten years experience on academic, non-profit, and private boards.
 

Speaker | Sean Kimiagar |  Principal Consultant | Enverus. 

Mr Kimiagar‘s career includes working in technical, business development and corporate strategy roles. He was an offshore Brazil geologist for BHP Billiton Petroleum, geologist for Halliburton across multiple US regions and Australia and Director Business Development in Middle East for C&C Reservoirs, before becoming an Investment Banker, followed by joining Enverus. He earned a BS and MS in Petroleum Geology and is due to receive his MBA from Texas A&M University in 2023. At Enverus he has worked in technical and corporate strategy roles, working on M&A deals for the company.

Prior to joining Mobius Risk Group in 2014 as Vice President of Research and Analysis, John spent 13 years at the Houston based energy fund AAA Capital Management Advisors as a Trading Principal and Petroleum Specialist.  Previously, he was a Vice President of Commodity Futures Sales at Citigroup.  During his 12‐year career at Citigroup, he also spent 7 years as a Vice President of Energy Analysis, responsible for fundamental research in the firm’s Futures Research Department.  Prior to his work at Citigroup, John spent 5 years as a senior editor at Petroleum Argus, a leading international oil market publication.  John is a graduate of The University of Texas with a BA in Economics.

 

Pedro Blanco | Managing Partner | Entoro | Capturiant  

Offering more than 20 years of quantifiable achievements in engineering, corporate finance, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, leveraged buy-outs, recapitalizations, and joint venture partnerships. Also, an avid entrepreneur.

Mr. Blanco has led acquisitional growth strategies and long-term portfolio expansion initiatives in the US, Latin America, and the African region. With a deep understanding of the Global Energy Industry, Commodities, Real Estate, Logistics, and Technology, acting as a key contributor in all aspects of business partnerships, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures, and pioneering companies from the ground up.

Mr. Blanco was the founder and Executive President of full-service broker-dealers internationally and in the USA, which was sold to investors after successfully growing those businesses. Recently he has led the creation of various products and ventures within the financial industry in the United States and abroad and has held/holdsthe FINRA 7, 24, and NASAA series 63, and 65 securities licenses.

In his corporate professional experience, Mr. Blanco has contributed to the international development of multinational companies such as Schlumberger, Thomas De La Rue, Dow Chemical, Enron Corporation, Citgo Petroleum, etc. His responsibilities ranged from highly technical areas of Energy and Manufacturing to risk management, financial analysis, restructuring, business development, management consulting, M&A, investment management, and venture capital.

Mr. Blanco holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Corporate Finance and Corporate Strategy from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and a bachelor’s degree with honors in Geophysics Engineering from Universidad Simón Bolívar.

 

Alex Rozenfeld | Managing Director | Climate Impact Capital, LLC

 

Alex Rozenfeld founded Climate Impact Capital, LLC in 2016 to help fill the market gap for early stage companies and investors seeking to make an impact on climate change.

With 20 years of energy and innovation experience, Alex has worked extensively internationally as an entrepreneur, angel investor, and business developer and venture capitalist for Fortune 500 companies. His main focus has been on bringing corporations and entrepreneurs together to impact one of the world’s largest challenges – sustainable and plentiful energy access. He has been investing in energy technologies since 2001, including hydrogen, fuel cells, and energy storage. Notable roles include work on the earliest H2 vehicle station in California and President at Shell Technology Ventures, LLC.

Alex has been an active supporter of the energy entrepreneurship community as an energy co-chair of the Houston Angel Network, chair of the Energy Initiative at The Center for Houston’s Future, Advisory Board member of the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, founding member of the Advisory Board member for the Houston Advanced Research Center and an active adviser to many energy companies. Under Alex’s leadership, Climate Impact Capital launched  Texas Innovates, a non-profit hardtech incubator working on energy and water challenges, where Alex is President of the BoD, and the Climate Salon, a peer network for climate investors. His work also includes international roles, such as the Advisory Board to the Energy Innovation Initiative at World Economic Forum (WEF).  Alex holds BSE magna cum laude from Princeton University, a degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, and an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

He was awarded a lifetime achievement award by President Joe Biden in January 2023. He is an Executive Agent, Corporate Strategist and Business Development Executive. 

He is Managing Director of a financial and strategic advisory firm that provides Capital Formation (Reg D, Reg A+, and Reg CF), M&A, A&D, leveraged finance, equity/equity-linked financing, restructuring, and recapitalization solutions.
