AGENDA:

Topic: Legal Update on Risk Management for Small and Midsize Businesses, NC Sales Tax, and Employment Discrimination

We will have a number of interesting subtopics presented by speakers with expertise in each area.

 

  • Attorney Christy Dunn will discuss how businesses can mitigate risk and maximize insurance coverage for cyber theft, using a recent case study as a cautionary tale. See Christy's bio
  • Attorneys Reed Hollander and Marlo Donato Kalb will provide an overview of North Carolina sales and use tax law, including recent tax guidance updates from the North Carolina Department of Revenue. See Marlo's bio. See Reed's bio.
  • Attorney Christy Dunn and another Young Moore employment attorney will highlight the key facts courts focused on in a few recent employment discrimination cases. See Christy's bio

 

Speakers’ Bios:

Christy Dunn

Christy concentrates her practice on civil litigation, insurance law, and employment law.  She advises insurance carriers and policyholders on first-party and third-party coverage matters and represents insurance companies in bad faith and coverage litigation.  Christy also represents employers, electric membership corporations, and long-term care facilities in civil litigation and employment law matters. 

Reed Hollander

Reed is a litigation attorney and focuses his practice primarily on state and local tax (SALT) controversies, including property tax, sales and use tax and other excise taxes, corporate and individual income tax. He represents clients in a variety of industries including retail, manufacturing, life sciences, and healthcare in matters involving tax strategy, administrative challenges and appeals, and contested cases before the North Carolina Property Tax Commission and North Carolina Office of Administrative Hearings. Reed also represents clients in the appeal of such cases before the North Carolina Business Court, the North Carolina Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of North Carolina. His appellate practice has included appeals of matters within the Second, Fourth, and Tenth U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals and to the United States Supreme Court. He has spoken and published articles on state and local tax controversy issues regionally and nationally.  In addition to his state and local tax practice, Reed represents clients in matters involving eminent domain and condemnation law, economic development, and administrative and business litigation.

Directions from RDU Airport and Points West:

 

  • Take I-40 East to Raleigh.
  • From I-40, take Exit 289 (Wade Avenue Exit).
  • From Wade Avenue, take the exit onto I-440 E/U.S. 1 N toward Wake Forest/Rocky Mt/Wilson.
  • From I-440 East, take the Crabtree Valley Mall/ Glenwood Avenue Exit (Exit Number 7).
  • Exit 7 divides at the bottom of the exit; stay to the right to merge onto Glenwood Avenue East (50 South). You will be heading downtown and in the direction of our office.
  • Proceed to the third stop light, which is at the intersection with Glen Eden Drive. Our building is on the right in the trees at the corner of Glenwood Avenue and Glen Eden Drive. The address is 3101 Glenwood Avenue, and the entrance is from Glen Eden Drive.
  • Turn right onto Glen Eden Drive and the entrance is the first drive on the right.

Directions from Points South (via Sanford and U.S. 1):

  • Take U.S. 1 North toward Raleigh. U.S. 64 East merges with, and becomes I-440 East
  • Off of I-440 East, take the Crabtree Valley Mall/ Glenwood Avenue Exit (Exit Number 7).

About the Raleigh Chapter:

 

The Raleigh chapter has over 700 members and meets monthly, generally on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Meeting locations vary so be sure to double-check this each month. Guests and prospective FENG members are always welcome. First-timers are given the opportunity to introduce themselves to the other chapter members. Most meetings include a speaker and topic of current interest to our members.
