We have a new company hosting our meeting this month… CAPTRUST and CareerPro.
CAPTRUST provides independent, client-first financial advice and investment management services to individuals, endowments, foundations, nonprofit organizations, retirement plan sponsors, and their employees. For individuals, the firm focuses on holistic financial planning and wealth management, plus concierge services for those with ultra-high net worth. For institutions, CAPTRUST also offers outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) services, fiduciary support, plan design and provider analysis, fee benchmarking, and financial wellness programs.
Our speaker, the former head coach of the UNC wrestling team, will talk about “The difference between temporal and eternal rewards”. He says, “One of my former wrestlers was a CEO of a multibillion-dollar company and I felt like he still needed that information. I have also known some great athletes and coaches who need to understand that as well.”
Co-Hosts: CAPTRUST and CareerPro – Special thanks to Hennesey Stuart of CAPTRUST and John O’Connor of CareerPro for hosting our meeting.
Topic: The difference between temporal and eternal rewards
One of my former wrestlers was a CEO of a multibillion-dollar company and I felt like he still needed that information. I have also known some great athletes and coaches who need to understand that as well.
Speaker: Coach Bill Lam
Coach Bill Lam is a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and mentor. But he may best be known for the 30 years he spent as head coach of wrestling at the University of North Carolina. Bill Lam, the winningest wrestling coach in the history of the University of North Carolina, is a nationally recognized mentor, author and speaker.
Under Coach Lam’s guidance, UNC wrestlers won 15 ACC team championships, 14 top-20 finishes nationally, and produced five NCAA national champions, 37 all-Americans, and 97 ACC individual champions.
The UNC wrestling program had an all-time winning percentage of .390 before he arrived in Chapel Hill in 1974. By the time he retired from varsity coaching in 2003, he had attained the program's most wins (378) and highest winning percentage (.741).
He was recognized in the sport as National Coach of the Year and National Man of the Year. Lam was also named ACC Coach of the Year 10 times, and many of his team members have gone on to become strong and successful leaders in their own right – from CEOs, to surgeons, lawyers, city managers, and head wrestling coaches.
While coaching at UNC, Lam founded Wrestling With Life, a non-profit business and coaching consultancy he has used to take fundamental lessons learned in athletics -- like discipline, planning and a tireless work ethic -- to teach timeless principles of success. In 2011, he contributed the chapter "*Choices*" to Bill Tracy's book "*Pushing To The Front: Front Line Strategies From The World’s Leading Entrepreneurs.*"
A native and multi-sport star from Boulder, Colo., Lam received his bachelor’s degree in 1966 from the University of Oklahoma, later earning his master’s degree in counseling and guidance and a master’s in psychology. He was a member of OU’s 1963 national championship team and set a team record for most career victories.
Since retiring from UNC, Lam has continued to share his 40+ years of leadership experience through his Impact & Legacy Summit, speaking engagements, public appearances, and writing. He is also a Governor’s Associate for the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, providing advice and counsel to the organization’s Board of Governors in betterment of the sport. Coaching Caregivers is his newest passion – one that comes from personal experience.
