Topic: How to Gain the Most Value From a Leadership Development Program

Leadership programs can take many forms, but one common version involves three key phases: 
1) collecting and debriefing in-depth assessment data, 
2) building a goal document called a development plan (often informed by the assessment results), and 
3) working with a coach to make as much progress against that plan as possible. 

In this session, Tim will draw from his almost 20 years of experience advising leaders to provide suggestions on how executives can gain the most value from a leadership development experience involving the format mentioned above. Tim will provide clear suggestions for how leaders can prepare for and receive feedback, set high-quality goals that will maximize their motivation, and ready themselves for the unique demands of a coaching engagement.

Tim Jackson, Ph.D. is the President of Jackson Leadership Inc., and a leadership assessment and coaching expert with 17 years of experience. He has advised leaders across a variety of sectors, including agriculture, chemicals, consumer products, finance, logistics, manufacturing, media, not-for-profit, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and utilities and power generation, including multiple private-equity owned businesses. He has also worked with leaders across numerous functional areas, including sales, marketing, supply chain, finance, information technology, operations, sustainability, charitable, general management, health and safety, and quality control. His previous clients also span hierarchical levels from individual contributors to CEOs, and geographies that span Canada, the US, Western Europe, and China.  Tim has published his research and ideas on leadership in various outlets, including The Globe and Mail, Forbes.com, and in peer-reviewed journals. He has also shared details of his coaching practice at leading conferences like the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He has a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Western University, and is based in Toronto, ON.
