Your Next Opportunity May Be in This Zoom Room

Please join us for our next Long Island Chapter meeting on Tuesday, July 28, at 6:00 PM ET via Zoom.

This month, we're taking a different approach. Instead of a guest speaker, we're dedicating the evening to one of the greatest benefits of FENG—networking with your fellow finance executives.

Whether you're actively pursuing your next opportunity, looking to expand your professional network, seeking referrals, hiring talent, or simply reconnecting with colleagues, this meeting is for you.

We'll begin the evening with introductions, followed by an open discussion about the job market, hiring trends, career challenges, networking strategies, and whatever topics are on your mind. The best conversations are often the ones we don't plan.

Please come prepared with a 90-second introduction that answers these five questions:

Who are you and what do you do?

Why do you do it? What motivates you?

What sets you apart from everyone else? Why should people remember you?

How do you get important things done? What is your leadership or management style?

What benefit do you bring to your organization—or, if you're in transition, to the next organization you hope to join?

You will probably never be given 90 uninterrupted seconds to talk about yourself—and that's not the point.

The purpose of this exercise is to make sure you know these five things cold so that you can naturally weave them into any introduction, networking conversation, interview, or unexpected opportunity. The more comfortable you become telling your story, the more confident and authentic you'll sound.

Practice your introduction before the meeting, then try it out with your friends at FENG. Compare and contrast different approaches, ask for feedback, and continue refining your message. Keep working on it until you know it so well that you could deliver it in your sleep. This is a skill that will continue to serve you long after you've landed your next assignment.

Many of the best opportunities don't begin with a job posting—they begin with a conversation. Whether you're hiring, looking, or simply expanding your network, you never know who you'll meet or what connection could make a difference.

Alumni members are especially encouraged to attend. Your experience, advice, and connections are invaluable to members who are navigating their next career move. It's a wonderful opportunity to give back to the FENG community while continuing to build and strengthen your own professional network.

Join us on July 28 and remember:

About Lew Bader:

Lew Bader is Chair of both, the Long Island Chapter of The FENG and of The FENG Peer Resume Review Committee. After a 40-year career with Fortune 500 companies, Lew found himself facing the job market for the first time at the age of 62. Over the next two years, he meticulously developed a job hunting toolkit that eventually led him to his current role as the Chief Financial Officer at Counseling In Schools, a New York City-based non-profit organization.

Lew also takes pride in his long-standing relationship with Matt Bud, noting humorously that he was likely the last of Matt’s friends to join The FENG in 2014, a connection that dates back to 1980.
