Topic:  How to Take the Lead when Interviewing for a Job - 90 minutes

Speaker:  Jackie Kellso, President, PointMaker Communications LLC

Background: 90% of the most important parts of communication are non-verbal and it only takes about 7 seconds to make a first impression!  Making the right impression is even harder during an interview (whether in person or virtual) because there is so much to communicate, while forging a positive connection with a prospective employer.

Many professionals go into interviews ready to answer questions and ask a few, but leave without knowing the impact or impression that had been made. The reason is generally because people go to interviews relying on experience and the ability to field questions.  There's much more to it. It's about one's mindset. The shift in perspective is to be the high-level consultant able to influence a potential client vs. being one of many great candidates vying to win over a prospective employer.

Workshop Objectives: In this workshop we will focus on:

a. Establishing a memorable presence: body language; facial expression, tone of voice, articulation, gestures, posture.

b. Speaking about your expertise fluidly and confidently when someone asks you to, "Tell me about yourself."

c. Asking strategic questions that will help you connect your value proposition with the prospective employer's needs.

How to Prepare:  Come to the session with your ABOUT ME prework completed, even if it's only a draft. (File was sent in a separate e-mail: PointMaker Communications, "Tell me About You.") Jackie asks you to use this prepare for our workshop.

What to Expect:  The type of coaching that this workshop offers is called 'coaching-in-the-moment'. The coach interrupts the speaker while presenting (instead of giving feedback after the speaker has finished). This type of coaching is feed-forward, meaning, she will interrupt to coach for change, enhancement and improvement.

All attendees will be asked to offer feedback to speakers during the workshop in support of each other's growth. This process asks participants to stretch out of their comfort zones! This method is highly effective and produces surprisingly positive results.

About Jackie Kellso:  Jackie is a leadership and communications coach and trainer, and a brain-based coach. She specializes in presentations/public speaking skills, executive presence and self-awareness. Jackie has extensive experience helping people move along in their careers with increased confidence in their abilities. You can learn more about Jackie by checking out her website:

This is an interactive workshop - active participation is highly encouraged! This session will not be recorded to allow participants to freely engage with the speaker and each other.  Jackie will be presenting a slide deck as a teaching aid, but not as a stand-alone resource and hence, the slide deck will not be made available to participants after the workshop.
